A Spring Reset: My Favourite Teas to Welcome the Season

A Spring Reset: My Favourite Teas to Welcome the Season

There is something about the arrival of spring that always feels like a gentle reset. The days grow longer, the air feels lighter and everything around us begins to wake up again. I often find that spring is the perfect moment to refresh routines, spend more time outdoors and return to simple rituals that help us feel grounded and energised. For me, tea has always been one of those rituals. As the seasons change, I naturally find myself reaching for lighter, brighter teas that feel refreshing and uplifting.

What I love about spring teas is that they often feel brighter, greener and more delicate. Across the tea world, the first harvests of spring are especially prized because the new leaves that appear after winter dormancy tend to produce lighter, fresher and more refined cups. This is why first flush black teas, green teas, white teas and many oolongs are so often associated with spring.

When I think about a spring reset, I naturally find myself reaching for teas that feel uplifting, fragrant and alive. At Totally Loose Leaf, we have a wonderful selection of teas that I think are especially beautiful for this time of year. These are some of the best teas to enjoy as spring begins.

Ti Kuan Yin (Iron Goddess of Mercy)

One of my personal spring favourites is Ti Kuan Yin (Iron Goddess of Mercy). It is one of China’s most celebrated oolong teas and comes from Anxi in Fujian Province. It is a tea with floral notes, soft creaminess and a gentle roasted depth and that balance is exactly why I think it works so beautifully in spring. Oolong teas sit between green and black teas in processing because they are partially oxidised, which gives them both freshness and depth. I love that middle ground which feels elegant, calming and quietly restorative.

Premium Nepal

Our Premium Nepal tea is a wonderful choice when I want something both refreshing and complex. Harvested from the renowned Jun Chiyabari Tea Estate in eastern Nepal, this tea benefits from cool mountain air, pristine spring water and rich, mineral-laden soils. Every leaf is handpicked and carefully processed to preserve its natural elegance and layered complexity. Grown in the high-altitude gardens of Nepal, this tea has a beautifully smooth and slightly floral character. It sits somewhere between the lightness of green tea and the depth of traditional black teas, offering a bright and uplifting cup that feels perfect for spring afternoons.

Lucky Dragon Hyson

Another lovely tea for spring is Lucky Dragon Hyson. Even the name feels full of new-season energy. It is a classic Chinese green tea with a fresh, lively flavour with a bright grassy aroma and a mellow sweetness that is harvested in early spring. This makes it such a natural fit for the season. If I want something that feels cleansing, vibrant and refreshing, this is exactly the kind of tea I would reach for.

Sencha Kakagawa

I also think Sencha Kakagawa is perfect for a spring ritual. It has that fresh, vegetal character that so many people love in Japanese green tea, with a balance of sweetness and umami. Green tea is especially rich in catechins, a type of polyphenol. More broadly, tea is associated with plant compounds that support long-term health when enjoyed as part of an overall healthy lifestyle. I always think spring is a lovely time to enjoy greener, cleaner-tasting teas like this, especially when I want a gentle reset rather than anything too heavy.

Fujian Jasmine and Jasmine Dragon Pearls

For something floral and graceful, I would absolutely include Fujian Jasmine and Jasmine Dragon Pearls. Fujian Jasmine is a classic green tea layered with fragrant jasmine blossoms while the Jasmine Dragon Pearls are made from tender leaves plucked early in the new season and scented with fresh spring jasmine blooms. There is something incredibly calming about jasmine in spring. It feels soft, fragrant and quietly joyful. These are the kinds of teas I love when I want my tea ritual to feel a little more delicate and reflective.

A Moment to Reset

Spring always reminds me that small rituals can have a powerful effect on how we feel. Taking a moment to slow down, brew a fresh pot of tea and enjoy the change of season can be one of the simplest ways to reset and reconnect. As nature begins to bloom again, I find that these lighter, fragrant teas perfectly capture the spirit of spring. So, if you are looking to welcome spring in a softer, more mindful way, I would begin here. A fresh tea. A calm moment. A lighter season. The simple ritual of letting that be enough. Let us energise ourselves this spring with a fresh healthful cup of tea!

Warmly,
Engil - Totally Loose Leaf
