7 Best Teas and Herbal Infusions to Relieve Stress and Anxiety

Life can truly get overwhelming at times and I’ve often found myself reaching for a warm cup of tea and looking for a moment of calmness, a moment of stillness, whenever I needed to slow down. Something about the simple ritual of brewing, waiting and sipping and popping on some background music, that just really helps me.

Stress and anxiety don’t wait for a certain season, they can creep up at any time and for me, tea has become one of those small grounding practices that really help. Both stress and anxiety can show up in different ways, whether it’s trouble sleeping, digestive issues, difficulty concentrating, muscle tension or even irritability and anger. Most of us experience some form of it at some point and while a little stress can sometimes be useful to push us forward, when it builds up it can really take a toll on our daily lives.

That’s why I believe in creating coping routines and finding moments of calm. For me, tea and herbal infusions play a huge role in this. They don’t just calm the brain through their natural healthy properties, but the very act of making a cup taking that pause, breathing in the aroma, holding something warm in your hands - creates a sense of stillness and comfort.

So, here are some of my favourite Totally Loose Leaf teas and herbal infusions that are known to bring calm and help relieve stress and anxiety:

Ayurvedic Tea

Our Ayurvedic Total Body blend is a caffeine-free infusion made with peppermint, spearmint, rosehip, ginger, rooibos, hibiscus, and delicate rose, calendula, and osmanthus petals. The mints are known to ease digestion and bring a refreshing coolness, while ginger adds a warming spice that many people find grounding. Rooibos and rosehip bring a gentle boost of comfort and antioxidants and the floral petals give the blend its soothing, calming aroma. For me, it’s the perfect healthy cup throughout the day when I want something that feels both refreshing and nurturing at the same time.

White Tea

White tea is one of the most delicate teas you can drink. Because it’s lightly processed, it’s known to be rich in natural antioxidants, while carrying a gentler amount of caffeine compared to black or green tea. This makes it a lovely option when you want to stay focused but also remain calm and relaxed. I find white tea to be the perfect mindful pause - soft, subtle and a reminder to slow down while still giving me a little lift.

Peppermint

Peppermint tea is well known for its cooling, refreshing taste and it’s often sipped for its soothing effect on digestion. When your body feels settled, your mind often follows. I love having a cup of peppermint when I want something light, caffeine free, fresh and calming, especially after a busy day or a heavy meal.

PURE PEPPERMINT TEA

Chamomile

Chamomile blossoms are probably the most classic choice for relaxation. Known for their soft floral aroma and natural calming qualities, chamomile infusions are often sipped before bed or in the evenings to encourage rest. For me, chamomile is like wrapping yourself in a soft blanket - it’s gentle, full of goodness, comforting and the perfect way to wind down.

Lavender

Lavender tea is beloved for its gentle floral fragrance. It’s often believed to help ease nervous tension and create a sense of calm, which is why it’s commonly enjoyed as part of a nighttime routine. I love lavender for the ritual of it - the scent alone feels soothing, and it always reminds me to take a deep breath and let go of the day.

SAPPHIRE BLUE FRENCH LAVENDER

Buckwheat Tea

Buckwheat tea, also known as sobacha in Japan, is naturally caffeine-free and has a warm, nutty, roasted flavour that feels incredibly comforting. It doesn’t have strong herbal notes, but instead gives you that cozy, grounding feeling that’s perfect when you just want to relax or as a comforting cuppa to get you through the day. For me, it’s a wonderful tea when I want something simple, soothing and a little different at anytime.

Decaf Tea

Sometimes you want the taste and ritual of tea without the buzz of caffeine, especially later in the day. That’s where our decaf teas come in whether it’s a decaf English Breakfast, a decaf green, or a gentle decaf jasmine. They give you the familiar flavour and warmth of tea, but in a way that’s softer on the system and more relaxing before bed.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, stress and anxiety are things we all face in different ways, but I’ve found that small, simple rituals can make a big difference. For me, tea isn’t just about the health benefits - it’s about creating a moment of calm, stillness and comfort in the middle of the day.

Whether it’s a calming chamomile before bed, a refreshing peppermint after a long day, or a soft white tea in the morning, there’s always a blend that can bring you back to yourself. And that’s really what I hope to share through Totally Loose Leaf - teas that not only taste wonderful and are healthy but also create little grounding moments we all need.
